Introducing Ängie - Swedish Indie Pop Influenced by Weed and Rap

Angie is a new artist from Sweden. Her sound is indie-pop, her lyrics are like a lesbian Wiz Khalifa and her vibe is 90s goth. That's a weird sentence to write and an even odder combo because I'm crazy into it all. It sounds like it should be trash but there's an introspectiveness to it all that really connects, on top of being really catchy. There's a boldness and aggressiveness that feels very much rooted in rap music. These are some fucking incredible tracks and I'm really, really interested in hearing more and eventually seeing her live whenever she makes her way to NYC.

Here's an interview from GuestList from 2 years ago where she discusses growing up in Sweden, smoking weed (obvi), being suicidal and finding herself. Show love and check out her Instagram, Twitter and Spotify.

Introducing... NYPC (New Young Pony Club)

I love NYPC (formerly New Young Pony Club). They're an electronic/new wave band from the UK that's perhaps most known for the single "Ice Cream", as it was featured in commercials for Nissan Cube and Intel
The band recently released their third album, 2013's self-titled NYPC, and it was my second favorite album of the year behind YEEZUS. The same thing happened in 2010 when their sophomore album, The Optimist, ended the year as my second favorite album behind another Kanye creation, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Introducing...Kaneholler

Kaneholler is a Brooklyn-born and California-based electro/soul duo. I first got hip to them when they opened for The Ting Tings a few weeks ago. I wasn't blown away perse, but when they played the song we later found out was "Careless", everyone in the group was pretty unanimous in their opinion that "Careless" carried some serious Wake Flocka Flame. I mean, it was an okay-everyone-shut-the-fuck-up-I-need-to-hear-this-song kind of thing.

Anyway, Kaneholler consists of Chelsea Tyler (Steven Tyler's daughter) and Jon Foster. They've released two EPs, Vol 1, which you can download for free on their soundcloud, and Vol 2, which you can get on iTunes for $4. They're currently in the studio working on their debut album. Show love and check out their Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and website.

Introducing...Selah Sue: The Next Great Soul/Pop Artist

We featured Selah Sue a few months back when she dropped the first two singles ("Together" ft. Childish Gambino and "Alone") from her sophomore album Reasons. That album came out three weeks ago and it's taken me that long to determine how I really feel about it. When I did my first pass through, I immediately knew the album was good — it was just a question if I fucked with it or not. (For reference, I never really liked Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, though I would never deny the stellerness of said album.)

I put Reasons in a folder for songs I'm not sure what to do with, and every time I did a pass through of that folder, I added another track from Reasons into iTunes. Then another song. And another. And now I have 9 of the album's 14 tracks in my main playlist. Why? Because Reasons is on the shortlist of best albums of 2015. (Note: the album hasn't been released in the US and isn't on Spotify — but it is on her YouTube.)

Sue, a Danish singer songwriter, mixes soul and pop in a way that I haven't heard in a long time. Maybe that's because I haven't heard anyone with a voice like hers in a really long time. And it's hard to compare her voice or sound to other artists, not because there aren't any, but because I no longer remember who they were after hearing Selah Sue's Reasons. The album's that good.

Sue received substantial commercial (mostly in Europe) and critical acclaim for her self-titled debut album, and she even landed the music for the big Häagen-Dazs commercial with Bradley Cooper

Standout Reasons tracks include "Alive", "Fear Nothing", "Falling Out", "Feel", "Reason", "The Light", "Stand Back", and the aforementioned "Together" ft. Childish Gambino and "Alone"

Introducing...Catcall

Catcall is one of my favorite artists, insomuch as someone can be a favorite with only one album. But that's where we are. Catcall is an Australian pop music singer songwriter. She's got some stuff that's extremely poppy and catchy, and some stuff with production that sounds like grimey 90s New York and other shit that sounds like something Dr. Dre would preside over. Her debut album, The Warmest Place, is out now. Show love and check out her Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and website, and hit the jump for the full gauntlet.

Introducing...Alison Wonderland

Sometimes you have to stop what you're doing and pay attention when dope shit is happening. I'm in the middle of watching HBO's Going Clear (the Scientology documentary), and I had to hit the pause button so I could write this post. Alison Wonderland is an Australian DJ turned producer turned singer/songwriter. I got hip to her earlier this morning through ToneDeaf's 17 Aussie Ladies Who Are Making Pop Music Cool Again article. I heard "Cold" and immediately knew I found a fucking gem. Like Charlotte OC's "If My House Was Burning" from a few days ago, I knew instantly this was a track (and by extension, an artist) that I'm gonna fuck with for weeks, months and years to come. You know it's a good song when you hear the lyrics and imagine Drake singing them lol. Show love and check out Alison Wonderland's Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud, and buy her debut album, Run, on iTunes.

Introducing...Marian Hill

Marian Hill (Jeremy Lloyd (production/songwriting) and Samantha Gongol (vocals/songwriting) is an electro-pop duo from Philadelphia. And they are dope. They're the first band in a really long time where I've put their entire debut album in my iTunes after I heard it for the first time. They've got about 8 tracks out, three of which are pretty big: "One Time", "Lovit", and "Got It". Check out their Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud, and buy their Sway EP. And check "One Time" below and get the rest after the jump.

Introducing...Ladyhawke

Ladyhawke is an New Zealand-based indie/synth wave pop singer. She sang vocals on Pnau's 2007 hit "Embrace" and has released two albums, 2008's Ladyhawke and 2012's Anxiety. She's been in the studio for the past few years and is currently gearing up to release new music sometime this year

Introducing Florrie

I've been a fan of Florrie for a few years now, ever since I stumbled upon "Panic Attack (Fred Falke Remix)", a 7 minute house remix. Florrie's the drummer for production house Xenomania (Girls Aloud, The Saturdays) and has been releasing EPs at a rate of about one per year. Her latest, 2014's Sirens, is my personal favorite. It includes the above "Wanna Control Myself" and four other electro-synthpop bangers. Florrie's working on her first full length album which is supposed to drop sometime later this year. The first single from that album, "Too Young To Remember" (below), debuted on H&M's website and YouTube page. Whenever I listen to Florrie, I just feel a sense of excitement and happiness. That shit's rare. Show love and check out her Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter, website and iTunes page.

Introducing...Linus Young

Linus Young have an intense and equal affection for heavy drums, guitar tones that skew from lush to blistering, and harmonies with a take-your-breath-away beauty. Introduced to each other by longtime Frank Ocean creative partner/producer Malay, Belson (a New Jersey-bred girl raised on Van Halen) and Walker (a Louisiana native who previously played guitar in Ocean’s band) first started making music together in early 2013. By that summer they’d generated serious buzz with their sultry and slow-burning premiere single “City of Sin,” and in the fall headed out on tour with The1975 in the midst of dreaming up their full-length debut for Island Records.

Hit the jump for the rest of the profile.

Introducing Ryn Weaver

Ryn Weaver is a 21-year-old superstar in the making. Her debut track, the above "OctaHate", was coproduced by Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat, and co-written by Charli XCX and Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos. Ryn's recently released her Promises EP, and all four songs are crazy fucking dope. She's got this fairy-pop/electronic thing going and I'm smitten. I saw her live a few months ago and you can just tell she's gonna be something special. Show love and check out her Soundcloud, Twitter and Facebook. Hit the jump to hear the Promises EP in it's entirety.
