Introducing...Selah Sue: The Next Great Soul/Pop Artist

We featured Selah Sue a few months back when she dropped the first two singles ("Together" ft. Childish Gambino and "Alone") from her sophomore album Reasons. That album came out three weeks ago and it's taken me that long to determine how I really feel about it. When I did my first pass through, I immediately knew the album was good — it was just a question if I fucked with it or not. (For reference, I never really liked Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, though I would never deny the stellerness of said album.)

I put Reasons in a folder for songs I'm not sure what to do with, and every time I did a pass through of that folder, I added another track from Reasons into iTunes. Then another song. And another. And now I have 9 of the album's 14 tracks in my main playlist. Why? Because Reasons is on the shortlist of best albums of 2015. (Note: the album hasn't been released in the US and isn't on Spotify — but it is on her YouTube.)

Sue, a Danish singer songwriter, mixes soul and pop in a way that I haven't heard in a long time. Maybe that's because I haven't heard anyone with a voice like hers in a really long time. And it's hard to compare her voice or sound to other artists, not because there aren't any, but because I no longer remember who they were after hearing Selah Sue's Reasons. The album's that good.

Sue received substantial commercial (mostly in Europe) and critical acclaim for her self-titled debut album, and she even landed the music for the big Häagen-Dazs commercial with Bradley Cooper

Standout Reasons tracks include "Alive", "Fear Nothing", "Falling Out", "Feel", "Reason", "The Light", "Stand Back", and the aforementioned "Together" ft. Childish Gambino and "Alone"
