Introducing...Linus Young

Linus Young have an intense and equal affection for heavy drums, guitar tones that skew from lush to blistering, and harmonies with a take-your-breath-away beauty. Introduced to each other by longtime Frank Ocean creative partner/producer Malay, Belson (a New Jersey-bred girl raised on Van Halen) and Walker (a Louisiana native who previously played guitar in Ocean’s band) first started making music together in early 2013. By that summer they’d generated serious buzz with their sultry and slow-burning premiere single “City of Sin,” and in the fall headed out on tour with The1975 in the midst of dreaming up their full-length debut for Island Records.

Hit the jump for the rest of the profile.

Made in close collaboration with Malay (best known for his work on Ocean’s Grammy Award-winning channel ORANGE, along with albums by Yelawolf, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, and John Legend), Category 5 fuses gritty rock & roll, R&B, pop, and gorgeously warped electro with both grace and abandon. And while Linus Young note that Category 5 was named partly in reference to Hurricane Katrina, the spirit of chaos and devastation that threads throughout the album is nearly always rivaled by Linus Young’s tender romanticism and unbridled lust for life.

“There’s a lot of heartbreak on the album, but every song has a few different levels of meaning to it,” says Walker, who serves as Linus Young’s chief songwriter. Show love and check out their Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, Spotify and website.
