Introducing Prinze George

Prinze George is a Brooklyn-based indie-pop band. I saw them when they opened for Little Boots a few weeks ago at Bowery Ballroom. I wasn't super impressed with them at the time, as the more I heard, the more it felt like diminishing returns. Whomp, right, especially since the songs I liked, I really liked. So I bought their self-titled EP on iTunes and let some of the tracks sink in.

A month later, I feel like I've done a 180 on the band, to the point that I have the regular version of songs plus remixes of that song in my current playlist. The tracks still have a muted feel that I'm not a big fan of — most songs feel like they should be more energetic than they are — but I think that's more of a personal preference than an indictment of the band's quality. Show love and check out their Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter, website and iTunes.

New Artist: CZAR - "Thrill" + "Shadow"

Here's something new and fresh by someone I can find nothing about. Czar is an alternative/indie-pop singer-songwriter who has two singles out on her Soundcloud. The first, "Thrill", reminds me of the first time I heard Kendra Morris' "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" cover, but sexier. The hook goes:
Only you can make me feel/I like the way you make me feel/Baby can you make me feel/love like a thriller
The second single, "Shadow", is equally as dope, but a bit more acoustic. Show love and follow her Instagram, Soundcloud, Facebook and (bare) Twitter. Buy "Thrill" and "Shadow" now on iTunes.

Allison Taylor - Bells [Music Video]

Heard this was in the Entourage movie when Emily Ratajkowski drives Vince around. Such a dope sound from a new artist. Check out her Soundcloud, TwitterInstagram, and website and show love.

New Artist: Honne - “Warm On a Cold Night” + “All in the Value”

Sidenote: Honne and tatemae are Japanese words that describe the contrast between a person's true feelings and desires (本音 honne?) and the behavior and opinions one displays in public (建前 tatemae?, lit. "façade").

I’m not personally sure how to create electronic ballads but Honne (pronounced “Han”) seems to have figured it out (he’s also figured out how to sing drunk).  “Warm on a Cold Night”, as you’ve surmised from the title, is a guitar and synth driven track about a feeling so right that a certain someone can keep you warm on a cold night. But what happens when summertime rolls around? Do you say “get the fuck up off me” and kind of unceremoniously push them to the other side of the bed? Show love and check out Honne's Facebook, Twitter, website and Soundcloud.

New Artist: Dark Days In the Sun - Barricade

Dark Days in the Sun is composed of Australian-based singer/songwriter Mio and LA-based producer/writer SKAGGS. The band's first single, "Barricade", is out now. Show love and check out their Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, and website. You can download "Barricade" from their Soundcloud below. Shouts to Alftitude.

New Artist: Obenewa - He

I can't actually find any info on Obenewa so I'm going to jack everything from Pigeons and Planes (but shouts to Disco Naïvete on the heads up). Show love and follow Obenewa on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud.
“He" [is] Obenewa’s powerful debut solo offering. The track mirrors the melting pot of musical influences she was surrounded with growing up, incorporating touches of soul, R&B, and a little rock.

New Artist: Delta Rae - Bottom of the River [Music Video] + If I Loved You

Delta Rae is like an alternative rock-slash-folk band, which is odd because I normally run away whenever I hear "folk" + "rock" in music descriptions. But somehow the band's music got to me before I could escape and they hit me with the one-two punch of "Bottom of the River" (above) and "If I Loved You" (below). "Bottom of the River" is a chain-gang style minimalist track with sparse production that showcases the lead singers powerful vocals. It's some shit that would be on YEEZUS if YEEZUS was an American folk/rock album.
"If I Loved You" is the type of shit that deserves to be heard by the mass audience. I really feel like this could be the theme song to girls everywhere who have put a lot of male friends into the friend zone. It's about NOT loving someone, so it's a nice break from the typical "oohhhh iiii looovvveeee yoouuuuu" bullshit you always hear on the radio. With the proper backing and the right circumstances, I really feel this song could be a top 40 hit. It's crazy dope. Show love and check out their FacebookTwitter and website.

As a side bar, I meant to write this post last week. I'm only writing it now because I had a dream last night that they blew up, and I was all like, "shit! I need to write that article before it becomes outdated." So, yeah, I must really like this band to be having dreams about their popularity, and shit.

London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years [Music Video]

London Grammar. This is an ill, slow brooding indie track that perfectly showcases this chicks vocals. Check out her FacebookSoundcloud and website. Shouts to Broke Mogul.

Song of the Day: Marlene ∞ - BON VOYAGE [Music Video]

This is a nice little indie-pop track by newcomer Marlene ∞. These Swedish indie-pop stars are quickly becoming my favorite artists, namely Niki & The Dove and NONONO. And now we can probably add Marlene ∞ to the list. "BON VOYAGE" is full of energy, and it's the sort of track tailer made for summertime beach adventures. Just, too bad summertime isn't here yet :( Show love and check out her website, Facebook, and Twitter. Shouts to Disco Naivete.

New Artist: Salt Ashes - "Raided" + "Somebody"

Get ready to dance your ass off. Salt Ashes is a British based singer songwriter. According to her FB bio, she's "obsessed with Giorgio Moroder's blend of disco and epic dark atmospheres" and fancies "Madonna, Kate Bush, Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Lindstrøm, Daft Punk, [and] MIA" as some of her influences. Of the track "Raided", she said,
“A friend took me to an underground club in Berlin that reminded me of Warhol’s ‘Factory’. Everyone seemed to be escaping the outside world, hiding whatever secret or story they had. I became fascinated by them and tried to imagine what their real stories were which lead me to write Raided.”
Check out the infectious "Raided" and "Somebody" below. Show love and check out her Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud. Shouts to NuWavePony.

De Lux - Better At Making Time [Music Video]

De Lux describe themselves as a "post-disco dance-punk DIY duo that sound like they could have come out of 1979 or 1982 just as easily as 2013." I guess that's an accurate description? Idk, I've never been into the dance-punk scene. Check out their Facebook, Twitter and head to iTunes to buy their debut album, Voyage.

New Artist: LÁ-BAS - Automaton

So, I just spent all day at a music video shoot. A friend asked me if I wanted to be background, and I said yes without knowing anything about the artist or the shoot. That shoot was for "Automaton", the debut single from LÁ-BAS, a funk inspired indie band. The shoot was a lot of fun and I'll update the post when the video drops. Per NPR, which debuted the single:
LÁ-BAS is a dystopian space funk collaboration between film composer / art-rock veteran Nathan Larson (Shudder To Think, Swiz, Hot One), Canadian wunderkind Jordan Kern, and Angelica Allen (My Midnight Heart, Trans Siberian Orchestra).
The band's self-titled debut album hits April 24th. The band doesn't really have a social media presence but check out their Instagram and Soundcloud.

Introducing Ryn Weaver

Ryn Weaver is a 21-year-old superstar in the making. Her debut track, the above "OctaHate", was coproduced by Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat, and co-written by Charli XCX and Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos. Ryn's recently released her Promises EP, and all four songs are crazy fucking dope. She's got this fairy-pop/electronic thing going and I'm smitten. I saw her live a few months ago and you can just tell she's gonna be something special. Show love and check out her Soundcloud, Twitter and Facebook. Hit the jump to hear the Promises EP in it's entirety.
