Song of the Day: ZHU - Palm of My Hand

So ZHU dropped his debut album, GenerationWHY, almost a year ago. It largely came and went for me, as a lot of albums do these days, but one song that's stuck around has been "Palm of My Hand". This song was literally added to my library on July 21, 2016 and it's still in my main playlist, 9 months later. And still getting crazy tick. It starts a little slow, especially for people who haven't heard it, but the slow seductiveness is part of the allure. When it finally picks up 2 minutes in, you're already in a trance — and that's before the female vocalist speaks French for a bit. What is she saying? Who knows; The most vile shit, probably, but it doesn't matter. This is a fucking summertime, let's-turn-up-as-the-sun-goes-down kind of track.

Song of the Day: AlunaGeorge - Mean What I Mean ft. Leikeli47 and Dreezy

AlunaGeorge is gearing up for the release of their sophomore album, Remember, and they've slowly been teasing new tracks. First there was "I'm in Control" with Popcaan, then there was "My Blood" with ZHU, as well as the title track. Now they're (she?) back with the latest cut, the female-empowered aka the putting all the fuckboys on notice aka better put some respek on my name aka you touch me I'm putting my finger in your eye aka "Mean What I Mean". They shouldn't have to tell you anything twice, cuz they meant it the first time.

Separately, is George Reid still in the group? I haven't seen him anywhere recently — not in promo material, not on the Instagram. He's barely on the single covers. I guess AlunaGeorge is being marketed as a solo Aluna Francis. I just find that interesting and I'd love to hear the reasoning behind the move.

Remember is on your prefered digital streaming service September 19.

Song of the Day: Tiësto - Summer Nights ft. John Legend

I've never been a big Tiësto fan. No particular reason why, just wasn't a big fan of deep house. I also have a proclivity to dance tracks that follow a standard pop song structure, which means I like my dance songs to have a verses and hooks. I mean, to this point, the Tiësto track with the most plays in my iTunes was "Naked", and that was only because the hook goes, "I like us better when we're naked", and I heard that and was like, "hell, yes, I agree with that statement."

So when he dropped his new single, "Summer Nights" a few weeks ago, I wasn't even checking for it until I saw it featured John Legend, which basically meant it was John Legend + dance, which is something I'm always down for. And "Summer Nights" doesn't disappoint. It's got a night time-feeling piano riff that Legend croons over, and it's absolutely killer.

A+

Song of the Day: Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman

Ariana Grande is back with the super official first single from her upcoming 3rd album, Dangerous Woman. The track, a sultry throwback to your favorite 90s R&B, sees Grande stepping out from using JUST her powerful voice to build the song, something that's new for her. The slow building, guitar heavy track feels like a mature evolution for the 22-year-old, and the vibe, arrangement and instrumentation feels like of those Rihanna tracks everyone tries to emulate, except Grande sidesteps the emulation and creates her own thing.

I can only hope the Dangerous Woman album follows in the vibe of it's title track when it drops May 20th. Max Martin co-wrote and co-produced this, because obviously. See below for Larry David fucking up the intro to her SNL performance of the track.

Song of the Day: Chiara Hunter - Hammer

So dope I had to buy it. Feels super mid-90s R&B mixed with 2016 pop/electronic. Super sonic. Love her voice. Show love and check out her Facebook, Twitter, IG, and Soundcloud.

Song of the Day: AlunaGeorge - I'm in Control ft. Popcaan [Music Video]

I've always been on and off the AlunaGeorge train. I've liked most of their singles and features (Jack Ü's "To You" featuring AlunaGeorge was one of my favorite tracks of 2015) but their albums, or the band, has never clicked for me as a whole. I'm hoping that changes with their upcoming, untitled album because if "I'm In Control", the first single, is any indication, this could be some "album of the life" shit, as Kanye would say. Electronic Caribbean trap is all the rave right now.

Show love and follow AlunaGeorge on Facebook, Twitter and IG.

Song of the Day: DJ Snake - Middle ft. Bipolar Sunshine

The seemingly omnipresent DJ Snake, fresh off the summertime smash "Lean On" with Major Lazer and MØ, is back with his brand new single. "Middle", featuring Bipolar Sunshine, features that signature break/hook that DJ Snake has become known for. "Turn Down For What" had it, "Get Low" had it, "Lean On" had it, and "Middle" has it. I'm a little concerned that the formula might get a little played out, but until that happens, just sit back and enjoy this new shit. Oh, and Bipolar Sunshine has always been a Reckless Hedonist favorite.

Song of the Day: POWERS - HOT [Music Video]

I don't know who Powers is, but after randomly coming across this track, I feel like it's my temporary life mission to find out (and goddammit, they are not the easiest to google search for). Whoever they are, "HOT" is their most recent single, and it's one of those summery disco-pop creations that I find myself loving more and more. To really put a point on it, it's the kind of shit that I wanna drop mushrooms on and just be in an empty-ass room with giant-ass speakers and dance like I'm Napoleon Dynamite. Real Talk. And, they remind me a bit of The Ting Tings.

Show love and check out their Facebook, Twitter, website, IG, Soundcloud, and Spotify.

Song of the Day: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Downtown [Music Video]

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are back! They just dropped the Westside Story-inspired music video for "Downtown", the presumable first single from their upcoming second album. I'm really, really not sure how I feel about this track. Too many gimmicky shades of "Thrift Shop", but dope in its own right for simply being different, original, and not shitty. It's TBD whether it turns about to be great or just not shitty. Take a listen.

Little Boots - Working Girl [Song of the Day]

Over the past few months I've really been getting into Little Boots and her discography. She recently released her third album, Working Girl. Her shit feels like indie-pop/house because I could see every one of her songs being a remix of a sexy, energetic indie-pop track. I even saw her a few weeks ago on her Working Girl tour (which, if she comes to your city, you should definitely catch). Check out a few tracks from the new album.

Song of the Day: Selena Gomez - Good For You ft. A$AP Rocky

Selena is getting her JT "Sexyback"/Britney Spears "I'm a Slave 4 U" on with her newest single, "Good For You", featuring A$AP Rocky. It's very sexy and I'm very interested in her upcoming album.

Song of the Day: X Ambassadors - Gorgeous [Prod by Alex Da Kid]

I'm not a big X Ambassadors fan because I'm not a big Alex Da Kid fan. For the unaware, the producer of this band is the same guy behind Imagine Dragons (you know, "Radioactive"), Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie", B.o.B's "Airplanes", and all the Skyler Grey shit. Personal bias, if you will. Having said that, the dude knows how the fuck to craft a catchy fucking song. This hook, tho? This feels like a top 20 single. The X Ambassadors album has several crossover bangers. Check it out.

Song of the Day: AlunaGeorge - Attracting Flies (Baauer Remix)

I'm slowly, but surely, becoming a big fan of AlunaGeorge. There's 'You Know You Like It' and 'White Noise' by Disclosure ft. AlunaGeorge, both of which took a while to grow on me. Their new song, 'Attracting Flies', gets the remix treatment courtesy of the 'Harlem Shake' master, Baauer. And it's pretty much weekend fire.

Song of the Day: Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes - Love Letter

I first spotted Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes' "Love Letter" while doing research for a Heineken project (see the 2012 commercial below). Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes are a seven piece soul/pop band from Australia. The band's debut album, Baby Caught the Bus, from which "Love Letter" is taken, is out now. Show love and check out their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Song of the Day: Duran Duran - Future Off ft. Janelle Monāe & Nile Rodgers

I was never big into Duran Duran (I mean, 80s, right?) until they linked up with Timbaland to do the Red Carpet Massacre album back in 2007. Timbaland was coming off three home run albums, having produced JT's FutureSex/LoveSounds, Nelly Furtado's Loose, and his own Shock Value. While the critics weren't overly positive about the collabo, it was fucking stellar to me. I was the new audience they were trying to reach and I can still listen to that shit.

Well, the band is back and collaborating with a who's who in the music game. Their new single, "Pressure Off", features Janelle Monāe and Nile Rodgers, and was coproduced by Mark Ronson. You can feel the "Get Lucky" vibe that Rodgers brings to the track. Duran Duran's new album, Paper Gods, hits September 18.

Song of the Day: Alpine - Damn Baby [Music Video]

Alpine (not to be confused with Alpines) is a dope indie-pop band from Australia who just released their sophomore album, Yuck, a few days ago. I haven't gotten around to listening to the album yet (fucking work, amiright?) but they dropped the music video for "Damn Baby", the follow-up to the incredibly infectious "Foolish".

In the famous words of Kat Williams, "this shit right here? This shit's call death." I'm not exaggerating when I say this but "Damn Baby" could be my favorite song of the summer, if not my favorite song of the year. Those horns? They sound like an unheard Kanye and Just Blaze collaboration circa JAYZ's Blueprint album. I'm in love. Join the parade and check out Alpine's Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud, and head to iTunes to buy Yuck.

Song of the Day: Disclosure - Holding On ft. Gregory Porter

Disclosure has had some fucking bangers throughout the few short years they've been about. There's "Latch" w/ pre-super famous Sam Smith (though I'm partial to the ScHoolboy Q remix). There's "White Noise" with AlunaGeorge. There's the Flume remix of "You and Me" featuring Eliza Doolittle. And I think "Holding On", while not quite there, is pretty close to that atmosphere. The new Disclosure album, Caracal, drops September 25th.

Song of the Day: Miguel - Coffee [Music Video]

FINAAAALLLLLYYYYYYY. Miguel is back and gearing up for the release of WILDHEART, on June 29, the follow-up to his Grammy-winning sophomore set, Kaleidoscope Dream. He released an EP of tracks some months back, one of which, "Coffee (Fuckin' in the Morning)", ended up being released as the first single. And since WILDHEART is now available to pre-order on iTunes, Miguel has let loose three more album cuts. Check some of them out below.

Song of the Day: CSS - I See You Drunk Gurl

I. Fucking. Love. CSS. Their band name stands for Cansei De Ser Sexy, which is Portuguese for "I'm tired of being sexy", which according to the band, they heard Beyonce say once. They haven't released anything since 2013's Planta (which I wasn't really a fan of) but this shit here? This shit right here? I'm banging hard. It was produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek (who produced Planta), and I love it because it feels like a return to their unabashed, party-hard motherfucker, in-your-face style of their self-titled debut. I have no clue really where this track will end up but I'm guessing it was a leftover from the Planta sessions.

If you don't remember why you should know CSS, I've included their song that got placed in the very first iPod Touch commercial back in 2007, "Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex". Show love and check out their Facebook, Twitter, and website.

Alpines - Cocoon

I've been fucking with Alpines for a while, so I had one of those "what the fuck" moments when I saw this video because I'd never heard it before, despite dropping four years ago. This is a dope elelctro-indie-pop track by a dope band, and I highly suggest you check out their song "Zero", Twitter, Facebook, Wiki, or Bandcamp. Now excuse me while I go re-download the rest of their discography.
