N.E.R.D. & Rihanna - Lemon [Music Video]

N.E.R.D's new album, No One Ever Really Dies, drops December 15.

Come Back, Barack [Music Video] - SNL Digital Short

Chance The Rapper, Kenan Thompson and a third guy (sorry, dude, haven't watched SNL this season so I'm not familiar) get their Boyz II Men on in this 1990s throwback music video. The subject of their 90's-style love? None other than former president Barack Obama. And as someone with a Barack Obama tattoo, I 100% understand and agree.

NERVO - Champagne ft. Chief Keef [Music VIdeo]

And the oddest pairing of the year goes to NERVO and Chief Keef for making a NERVO song featuring Chief Keef.

DRAM - Ill Nana ft. Trippie Redd [Lyric Video]

I've been coming around to DRAM for a while now. It all started 2 years ago when my best friend would play "Cha Cha" incessantly. At first I hated it, with it's Mario-sounding beat. But I grew to love it. It continued last year with "Broccoli." I hated that song, too, but it grew on me. Now where here with "Ill Nana" ft. Trippie Red, and there's no hate in my bones, only love. A song about sweet, sweet, nana, it's one of those atmospheric, kind of mumbly jams that you hum along with because you don't know the words — but at the same time still wanna jump all on the couch with a bottle of Jameson in hand. Show love and follow DRAM on Facebook and Twitter, and check out his website.

Ludacris - Vices [Music Video]

After watching the video for Luda's latest single, I feel like I should get an oversized mask and be him for Halloween. Also, the first verse makes it sound like Luda's been an alcoholic for a looooonnnnggggg time. Separately, outside of the Fast franchise, what does dude do all day?

Noah Cyrus - Again ft. XXXTENTACION [Music Video]

I had never heard a Noah Cyrus track until this one somehow slipped into my weekly list of music to check out. And I was immediately captivated. The melody, the writing, the producing...you think it's going to sound one way because of her age and lineage, and it kind of starts out that way, but then the pre-chorus starts and it kind of takes a different, more emotion and mature twist, while still being fantastic, energetic pop that fills the speakers and entire room. Easily one of my favorite tracks as we transition out of the Calvin Harris funk-filled summer and into fall.

Having said that, I'm conflicted every time I listen to the song because it features XXXTENTACION, an up and coming rapper who, even at the tender age of 19, has a long and extremely concerning history of domestic violence (and other violent crimes). You can read about it over at Pitchfork, and be warmed — it's grim. I try very much not to support artists who repeatedly commit violent crimes and don't learn from and/or atone for their actions. DV is especially difficult for me to look past. But I've done it here, and I don't feel great about my choice. But I'll be reminded of it every time this track plays, which I figure will be often.

Fuckery: Insane Clown Posse - Miracles [Music Video]

Someone told me to watch this video. I did. I'm glad I did, but a week later, I'm still very unsure of what I witnessed. I've heard of Insane Clown Posse before. You've heard of Insane Clown Posse before. We understand them the music to be white Odd Future 15 years before Odd Future. But this song? "Miracles"? Maaaaannnnnn, it's what happens when you smoke too much weed and watch Planet Earth at the Gathering of the Juggalos. A sample:
Water, fire, air and dirt / Fucking magnets, how do they work? / And I don't wanna talk to a scientist / Y'all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed
Watching this video worth the four minutes, if for no other reason than to simply be astounded by the many WTF moments.

Kesha - Praying + Woman [Music Video]

Kesha without the $.

Big Boi - Mic Jack ft. Adam Levine [Music Video]

I'm a big Big Boi fan. He recently released his third solo record, Boomiverse, this past summer and it included a lot of dope music. "In The South" ft. Gucci Mane and Pimp C was hot. "Chocolate" ft. Troze goes in (it's actually a heavy sample of Jesse Rose & TrozĂ© - Chocolate (Milk Version)), but my favorite song is "Mic Jack" ft. Adam Levine. Something about Levine's voice crooning on this beat, with this hook, just gets me. Like, as a person, it gets me lol.

Anna of the North - Lovers [Music Video]

Anna of the North is another dope Norwegian indie/soul-pop artist. Sidebar: I could never live in Scandinavia because of the cold, but damn, do they make incredible pop music. You'd never guess it, but half of the pop music you hear on the radio at any given time was written or produced by someone from Norway or Sweden. Anyways, Anna of the North recently released her debut album, Lovers, and the above title track is the third and most popular single. Show love and check out her Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, and Spotify.

Dagny - Wearing Nothing [Music Video]

Dagny is a Norwegian indie-pop artist who released her debut album, Ultraviolet, last year. She's gearing up for the release of something new and has dropped a new single and video for "Wear Nothing," an infectious, summer-vibes, happy-as-fuck, breezy single. I hear this song and want to dance, but then I remembered gangstas don't dance, we boogie. Show love and check out her Facebook, Twitter, IG, Soundcloud, Spotify and website.

Calvin Harris - Feels (ft. Pharrell, Katy Perry & Big Sean) [Music Video]

The new Calvin Harris album is mental, monumental, incredible, sonic, phenomenal, it's summertime, poolside, beach vibes — it's everything. The fourth of July weekend was truly lit because of this and the Jay album. One of the recent official singles is "Feels", a Daft Punk vibing record that sees Pharrell back on his "Get Lucky" feel. Katy Perry and Big Sean are kinda along for the ride, but it's okay because the Pharrell/Calvin connection is like a Chris Paul/DeAndre Jordan alley oop (RIP Chris Paul/DeAndre Jordan alley oops). I mean, think about it — how awesome is a record when Katy Perry and Big Sean are a literal bonus?

Major Lazer - Know No Better (feat. Travis Scott, Camila Cabello & Quavo)

Major Lazer is back with a pretty banging summer EP titled Know No Better. Caribbean-infused like everything they do, the first single, also called "Know No Better," features Travis Scott, Camila Cabello (formally of Fifth Harmony) & Quavo. It took me a few listens to enjoy the song (I almost deleted it) but this has grown on my quickly. Both optimistic and depressing, the track opens with a soft piano riff that is in no way indicative of how the rest of the track will sound — this is a banger than makes you wanna dance on a rooftop. This is NYC so I'm gonna go do exactly that when i get off work in 45 minutes.

Another song, "Particula" is dedicated to baes everywhere.

French Montana - Unforgettable ft. Swae Lee [Music Video]

I'll make this quick — 3 things: One, I really like this song because I feel like Swae Lee helps it rise about the generic. Two, this is how you add Caribbean to the track without swagger jacking (cough, cough, DRAKE). Three, this is a weird video given the songs lyrics. Total disconnect and watching it while listening really throws me off. Both are great when separated, tho.

Magdalena Bay - Neon (Music Video)

Here's some nice dreamy indie-pop from Magdalena Bay. Show love on Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud or Instagram.

Michael Trapson - If Michael Jackson Was a Mumble Rapper

So there's a rapper who goes by Michael Trapson, and he's a trap version of Michael Jackson, I guess? Idk, you know how Instagram rappers are these days. Anyway, he made a video called "If Michael Jackson Was a Mumble Rapper [Aka "Neverland Dungeon"]", which is odd because he doesn't really mumble like Future or Young Thug. But what he does do like Young Thug is make a mockery of my ears and their tolerance of acceptable material.

The video is entertaining, though, especially in a "I-don't-want-to-get-out-of-bed-yet-so-let-me-peruse-Instagram-for-four-hours" kind of way (which, incidentally, is how I found this gem). If you wanna hear more by Michael Trapson, you can google him.

M.I.A. - P.O.W.A. [Music Video]

M.I.A. just dropped a new track and video for "P.O.W.A." The desert choreography is on point. Simple but effective. Intriguing

Fuck Donald Trump Music Video

This is hilarious. A bunch of Baltimore youth created a "Fuck Donald Trump" song and video. Taken for what it is, considering rap culture, it's obviously not meant to be literal. They aren't going to attempt to kill Donald Trump with a shovel, or "catch [him] with these hollows", but they do show their displeasure with our president.

Yung Mavu - Black Magic (Black Harry Potter)

You probably don't know who Yung Mavu is, but that's fine, neither do I. But what I do know is this young, Belgian, 16-year-old has created a trap version of the Harry Potter theme song. And it's pretty fire. The YouTube views don't do its popularity justice because tons of IG/TW accounts that steal content (like FuckJerry) have ripped and reuploaded. That's how I found it.

So, even if you aren't familiar with the plots from all 7 books/8 movies, you generally know enough about the franchise to follow along. More than the song, though, Yung Mavu manages to create a music video that's deeply steeped in the HP world, and also works really well as a completely independent narrative. The long, white, brightly lit hallway is both simple and incredibly magical.
