Big Boi - Mic Jack ft. Adam Levine [Music Video]
I'm a big Big Boi fan. He recently released his third solo record, Boomiverse, this past summer and it included a lot of dope music. "In The South" ft. Gucci Mane and Pimp C was hot. "Chocolate" ft. Troze goes in (it's actually a heavy sample of Jesse Rose & Trozé - Chocolate (Milk Version)), but my favorite song is "Mic Jack" ft. Adam Levine. Something about Levine's voice crooning on this beat, with this hook, just gets me. Like, as a person, it gets me lol.
Throwback Thursday: UGK - Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You) ft. Outkast
Saw on Twitter somewhere that someone wanted to walk down the aisle to "Int'l Players Anthem" but their husband vetoed it. Not sure how much I believe that, but it's a novel idea nonetheless. I checked YouTube, and while there are some wedding playlists with the track, there are sadly none with the couple walking down the aisle with "Int'l Players Anthem" playing angelically in the background. Some trivia about the track:
- Produced by Three 6 Mafia, and the original version featured the group (this was later turned into the remix)
- Nominated for the Best Rap Performance by Due/Group @ the 2008 Grammys
- #43 on Pitchfork's "Top 500 songs for the 2000s"
Big Grams (Big Boi + Phantogram) - Goldmine Junkie
Big Boi and Phantogram did a few songs together for Big Boi's 2012 album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. They were okay. But the two enjoyed their time so much they formed a group called Big Grams and released a self-titled EP last week. Check out "Goldmine Junkie, one of the standout tracks.
Phantogram - Black Out Days
I got hip to Phantogram a few years ago when Big Boi featured the electro-rock group on three tracks on his sophomore solo set, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. Since then, I haven't been on the lookout for them but I make sure to listen to everything new they drop. Show love and check out their Facebook and Twitter.
